When I Die...

When I die
Don't build a monument for me
Don't name a building after me
Just... just don't

Just keep me in your heart
For it is the monument
Of emotions and desires

Never let me out of your mind
For the fortress it is
Of memories and wisdom

A statue, a shrine
A memorial, a landmark
Anything you sculpt
May be abandoned, destroyed

My name on your heart is
Deeper than carved writings
On a buried ancient stone

My thoughts on your mind are
Powerful than all the kings
Who are buried in their tombs

So, When I die
Don't build a monument for me
Don't name a building after me
I beseech you... please don't

beautifully written poem.

Lovely thoughts lie within your words. To carry someones memory in ones heart is by far a greater monument to ones soul than a stone monument.

David Waters said...

very well done...and so true, monuments crumble, but memories go on forever;)

oh i wont sumit! haha! but you got a fine message here- tombstones are a thing of the past..

Very well done.
By the way (In light mood) Sumit! the heart you are talking too is likely to meet the same fate as yours in those days.
Both of you will be old.
If you are talking of general public and next generation, it is fine.

yes - think the best place to have a "monument" is in the people's life that were close to us...leaving footprints that will remain hopefully

Relatable, said much more nicely than I'd put it. Good piece.

I think if they build a monument or name a building after you, you're destined to haunt it.

Nice One Shot!
